About Us

Our aim is creating a unique experience for you!

Hey! I'm Torin

Hello I’m the founder of this business. Currently its a me, myself, and I style business. Chances are you’ll end up talking to me at some point :))

I’m a keen adventurer who loves a good chat. By day I’m here running the business, answering emails, packing bags and posting the occasional social media post. By night I’m out biking, fishing, running trails or maybe just chilling out (I can do that too).

The idea to create a outdoor rental business rather snuck up on me. I’m that friend with the extra pair of boots, surfboard, sleeping bag, crampons, rucksack, the list goes one. I like to think having this extra kit enabled my friends to come along on adventures even when they didn’t have the equipment themselves. So it came to me that others might also benefit from having accessible kit. Roll on a year from this realisation and I’ve now run the only camping/trekking equipment rental business that serves the West Highland Way (Scotland’s most popular long distance route)!

Fun fact: I’ve completed the West highland Way multiple times, once I even did it on a bike in under 20 hours

At West Highland Hire we rent out trekking and camping equipment. Our main business is servicing the West Highland Way as it’s on our front door. That being said we help trekkers on various other routes in our proximity. In the future we aim to expand further to get even more people on the next adventure.

Our mission:

“ We seek to get people outside on adventures by increasing the accessibility whilst also maintaining good sustainable practices ”

Accessibility

Getting people on adventures is very important to us. We prosper when we’ve been able to get outside. As a result we want to get you and everyone else out there too. Unfortunately its not always easy to go on an adventure. One reason is the cost. High initial upfront cost of the gear prevents people getting out. So we’re providing an alternative to outright ownership by renting the adventure gear when you need it.

Sustainability

We see the concept of underutilised ownership of gear as material waste and a drain on our planet’s finite resources. At the heart of this is a belief that the equipment we rent out prevents resources being extracted unnecessarily. In the worst case scenario for every tent we rent, we prevent another being bought which saves one tent’s worth of material. Renting your equipment is far better for the environment than buying if you are unlikely to use the kit again.

We also try to work into the business small ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

For example: all our detergents and dish soaps are biodegradable meaning spills create minimal pollution.
